The face behind Square It Up
Hi
If you've ended up here, you've probably been struggling with your website for a while. You know something isn't quite right, but you can't quite put your finger on it. Or maybe you've tried everything and are just a little fed up with it.
I know exactly how that feels.
In 2015, I built my first website myself, using WordPress. It was a real struggle. And every time I wanted to make a change, I had to start from scratch. I had a website, but I was constantly tinkering with it. I had no overview and no idea if everything was set up correctly.
A year later, I came across Squarespace. And I knew right away: this is it! Not because it was easier, but because it finally gave me some peace of mind. I threw myself into it completely, took courses, built websites for clients, and realized that I was not only getting better at the actual building, but also at contributing to the strategic side of things.
Because that's what it's really all about.
Building a website without taking a step back is like building without a foundation. What do you want to achieve? Who needs to find you? What should someone do when they land on your site? Those are the questions I always ask first. Only then do I get to work.
Squarespace Circle Day
In 2024 and 2025, I attended Squarespace’s community event at its headquarters in New York. I make a point of going there to get a firsthand look at the latest developments, learn from other web designers, and expand my network.
Squarespace is constantly evolving, and I believe it’s important to stay on top of those developments. And my clients benefit from that as well.
A background that makes all the difference
Before I switched to web design, I worked as a video producer and production manager at various media companies. I managed video projects from start to finish: from corporate video productions for Rijkswaterstaat and ProRail to television programs, commercials, and short films. I’m used to keeping track of the big picture, making decisions, and taking the pressure off others. That’s what I do now—albeit in a different way—for you as well.
Here’s a very small selection of some of the great projects I’ve worked on:
From working all over the world to the Algarve
After years of working as a digital nomad from places like Mexico, Japan, and Costa Rica, I now live with my dog Socks in the hills of the Portuguese Algarve. The tranquility here is a perfect fit for the way I work: thoughtfully, and with a focus on what really matters. No matter where I am, my clients can always count on me.
“We worked together really closely and found the whole collaboration super pleasant. Sandra thinks along with you and goes the extra mile to make whatever you want for your website happen. She understands what you, as a business owner, want and find important, and she's clear and pleasant to communicate with.”
