How to Connect Squarespace with Mailblue via Zapier
The Newsletter block in Squarespace automatically integrates with Squarespace Email Campaigns and Mailchimp. But what if you use Mailblue (or Active Campaign) as your email marketing tool?
You've got two options:
You can pop the Mailblue opt-in onto your website using some code.
You can link Mailblue and Squarespace together with Zapier.
This article covers the second option. You can read here how to add the opt-in form to your website using code.
Setting Up a Mailblue Account
First, set up your Mailblue account, create a list for your newsletter, and set up an automation if you'd like.
Add a Newsletter Block to your website
Add a Newsletter Block to your website and give it a clear name in the Content tab. (Figure 1) If you add a Newsletter Block to multiple pages, name the one on your homepage “Newsletter Homepage” and the one on your Contact page “Newsletter Contact Page,” for example. This is necessary so that you can “target” the correct Newsletter Block in Zapier later on.

Create a Zapier account
Go to www.zapier.com and create a free account. With Zapier, you can connect various tools to each other. You automatically start with a free 14-day trial. After that, you’ll automatically switch to the free plan. Paid plans are also available.
The Zap for connecting Mailblue requires a 1-step Zap. The free version of Zapier is sufficient for this.
Add Squarespace and Mailblue to Zapier
You can do this through "My Apps" in your Zapier account. To add Mailblue, search for "ActiveCampaign" (without a space). Zapier provides clear instructions on how to do this.
Create a new Zap in Zapier
To do this, click the orange "Create Zap" button in your Zapier menu.
Setting up a trigger in Zapier
This is the starting point of your zap.
Under "App Event," select Squarespace.
Under "Event," select "New Form Submission" and click "Continue" (Figure 2).
Select your Squarespace account and click Continue.
Under "Form," select the appropriate "Form Block" and click "Continue" (if you're working with multiple form blocks on your website, you'll see a list of all the form blocks).
Click "Test Trigger."
If everything is set up correctly, you'll see a message saying "We found a form." If you don't see this message, double-check all the previous steps and test the trigger again.
Click Continue.

Setting up an action in Zapier
Under "App Event," select ActiveCampaign.
Under "Event," select "Create or Update contact" and click "Continue" (Figure 3).
Select your Mailblue account and click Continue.
Select the "List" to which someone needs to be added.
Below is a list of various fields. The only fields you need to fill out are Email Address, First Name, and Last Name.
Click in the Email Address field, and a drop-down menu will appear. Click “Show all options” and select Email Address (which includes a demo Squarespace email address). (Figure 4)
Do the same for "First Name" and "Last Name," then click "Continue."
Click on "Test & Continue."
The entire zap is now being tested, and a contact is being sent to your selected list in Mailblue. You can check your Mailblue account to see if this has indeed happened.

Publish your zap
Click "Publish Zap" to activate your zap.
Check your DNS settings with your hosting provider
To prevent emails sent from Mailblue from being marked as spam, we recommend checking that your DNS settings are correct. You can do this by entering your domain name on this page: https://toolbox.mailblue.nl/
Three records will appear below that. If you see three green checkmarks, everything is fine and you don’t need to take any action. If you see one or more red crosses, there’s still work to be done. To fix this, you’ll need to log in to your hosting provider—the service where your domain name is registered. In the DNS settings, add the missing records. If this gets too technical, contact your hosting provider and ask if they can help you with this.
Be sure to check out the tip in the yellow box at the bottom of the toolbox page!
And now, let's continue…
In Mailblue, you can now continue setting up automations so that someone automatically receives an email after subscribing to a list. If you're not sure how to do this, please contact a Mailblue specialist.
